Lighting – Pull out every candle you own and then get a few more. Light the night with candles. Unless of course this is a children’s party in which case use burning candles sparingly and opt for battery operated ones. Keep the house dimly lit. Cover windows with dark paper to keep natural light out. If you must use lamps, drape with dark fabric to create a spooky glow. Who knows what lurks around every corner!

Scary Accents – Finally a party you don’t have to, dust your house for! String cobwebs (found at any craft or sewing store) from corner to corner on, your walls. Use a, few clear pushpins for securing the webs. , Add it to bookshelves, lamps (not too close to bulbs if, using them). String along the buffet table. Add in plastic spiders, bats, rats and more. Hang rubber bats from the ceiling too.

Food Service – Serve food on black plates and serve drinks in goblets. Consider getting a plastic cauldron and fill it with dry ice for a steaming witches brew. Cover the table with mismatched dark colored table clothes. Label food items with Halloween inspired names like “Dracula’s tomato bites” or ” Witches Fingers”. Have, fun. The, stranger the better!

Potions and Spells – Fill small glass jars (just reuse an empty salsa or jam jar) with colored water. Put labels on them indicating what type of potion or ingredient they are. Just add food coloring for an easy twist. Dump in gummy worms to float in the water or plastic bugs even green or black olives can look ominous floating in colored water. Cover books with construction paper and write “Sorcerer’s Spells” or “Spells for Dummies” on the cover. Scatter them around the party area. Add a few potions in the bathroom to keep the theme in the whole house.

Doors – Hang up Halloween decorations like skeletons, witches and vampires on the backs or insides of doors (like the coat closet or upstairs door). Guests will be surprised to see them on the other side!
