Free Kids Party Games – Scavenger Hunts

Much like treasure hunts, scavenger hunts are a fun way to pass the time at a child’s birthday party. Here are a few ideas for scavenger hunts:

Rainbow Scavenger Hunt

A rainbow scavenger hunt is a fun, free kids’ party game. Cut construction paper in the colors of the rainbow into strips, and give each child a strip in every color of the rainbow. Take them on a walk around the neighborhood or to the park, and have them match their colors to items found in nature. The first person to match all seven colors wins!

Alphabet Scavenger Hunt

Similar to a rainbow scavenger hunt, this game involves the little party guests hunting for items that start with every letter of the alphabet. Give each child a notebook with the letters A through Z written down. Then turn them loose around the house and in the backyard. As they spot the items, they can write them down in a notebook. It will look something like this:

Apple

Blanket

Cat

The first person to find something that begins with every letter wins.

Indoor Scavenger Hunt

Perfect for a birthday party that falls on a rainy day, an indoor scavenger hunt is a great way to entertain little party guests. Simply make a list of common household items (a vase, a pair of socks, a spoon, a lamp) and give each child a list. The first guest who successfully completes the list and shows you where he or he found the items wins the prize.

Party Game Prizes

Once your little troopers have completed their free kids party games, it’s time to dole out prizes. For a treasure hunt, typically whoever finds the treasure finds enough for everyone to share. Scavenger hunts, however, usually warrant a single prize. Here are some ideas for party game prizes:
